Overview

Nevado del Huila National Natural Park protects Colombia's highest volcano at 5,362 meters, making it a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of significant geological and ecological importance. The park preserves Andean páramo and superpáramo ecosystems rarely found at such elevations.

Accessibility

The park is closed to general visitors as of January 2025. Access may only be granted to experienced mountain climbers with glacier-traversal skills.

Transport

Neiva (NVA) is the nearest airport with commercial service. The 65-km drive from Neiva takes about 2 hours by car or with a hired guide.

Temperatures range from 3°C in the superpáramo to 13°C on slopes. Dry seasons: Jan-Mar and Jun-Aug. Rainy seasons: Mar-Jun and Sep-Nov.
