Before you go
Money
Ethiopian birr (ETB) is the local currency. Cash is preferred for park fees and boat trips. ATMs available in Arba Minch but carry sufficient cash for park visits.
Packing
Bring sun protection, binoculars for wildlife viewing, and sturdy closed shoes. Water and snacks are advisable as facilities inside the park are minimal.
Safety
Never explore the jungle independently without a guide. Do not accept unsolicited guide offers, especially from hotel touts.
Transport
A 4WD vehicle is essential for navigating the park's 180 km of rough tracks. Vehicle rental or guided tours from Arba Minch are the practical options.
Weather
Temperatures range 17-30°C year-round. Avoid park visits during rainy seasons (March-May, September-November) when roads become impassable.
