Before you go
Connectivity
Smartfren and Telkomsel provide mobile coverage in Ranai and main islands. WiFi is available at some guesthouses and cafes but expect limited connectivity on smaller islands.
Health
Medical facilities are limited. Natuna General Hospital (Ali Murtopo Street) operates 06:00-10:30. Indonesian citizens with active BPJS insurance can access government clinics (Puskesmas) free. Bring personal medications as pharmacies are limited.
Money
Exchange Indonesian rupiah before arriving in Natuna. Banks include Chinese Construction Bank on General Sudirman Street, Mandiri Bank at 96-98 Datuk Kaya Wan Muhammad Benteng Street, BNI, BRI, and Bank Riau-Kepri. Exchange rates at local banks will be poor compared to major cities.
Transport
Daily Wings Air flights connect Ranai Airport to Batam. Inter-island boats depart from Lampa Strait Port. Motorcycle rental in Ranai is the most flexible way to explore Bunguran Island.
Weather
Tropical climate year-round. Best visited February to April (dry season). Rainy season October-December brings frequent overcast skies and potential disruptions to boat services.
