Overview
Narsarsuaq is a small village in Southern Greenland built around its airport, which was constructed in 1941 by the US military and now handles commercial flights. While the village itself is unremarkable—just buildings serving the airport—the surrounding area offers spectacular Arctic scenery including the Narsarsuaq Glacier, Flower Valley, and iceberg-filled fjords.

Before you go
Connectivity
Limited connectivity in this remote village. Check with the tourist office for WiFi availability and mobile coverage options.
Money
Greenland uses Danish Krone (DKK). Credit cards are widely accepted but cash may be needed for small purchases. Alcohol and imported goods are expensive throughout Greenland.
Packing
Bring dried camping food from outside Greenland as local supplies are limited. Mosquito nets and insect repellent are essential for summer hiking. Warm layers are needed even in summer.
Safety
Camping near shorelines is dangerous due to risk of iceberg-generated waves. Hikers should use trail maps carefully—many marked routes are suggestive rather than actual trails. Bring mosquito repellent as insects can be troublesome in summer.
Transport
Narsarsuaq Airport handles international flights via Icelandair from Keflavik. Within the village, most destinations are walkable; taxis and hotel buses (approx. 10 DKK) available for longer distances. Boats are needed to reach nearby attractions.
Weather
Weather in Narsarsuaq is highly variable and affects all transport and sightseeing plans. Always check conditions with the tourist office and be prepared for rapid changes in Arctic conditions.
