Overview
Nagoya is Batam's de facto city center, voted into prominence by private enterprise over the government's preferred Batam Centre. The name itself is a relic of Japanese engineers from the 1970s who dubbed their drinking spot after Nagoya, Japan.

Transport
Taxis are the easiest way to get around. Shared rides to Sekupang cost Rp 12,000 per person; chartered taxis Rp 40,000. Harbour Bay ferry terminal is about Rp 15,000 by taxi.
