Why go?
Naga is the economic, commercial, and cultural hub of the Bicol Region, serving as the main transit point for travelers heading to Mayon Volcano in Legazpi or the beaches of Caramoan. The city draws hundreds of thousands of Catholic pilgrims each September for the Peñafrancia Festival, one of Asia's largest Marian devotions, featuring a dramatic fluvial procession. Outside festival season, Naga offers a more laid-back alternative to Manila with colonial churches, mountain trails, and natural hot springs within a 30-minute drive of the city center.

Getting there
Naga is accessible by air via Naga Airport (WNP) with flights from Manila, or by road via the Asian Highway 26 from Manila (approximately 6-8 hours by bus). Philippine National Railways (PNR) operates the Bicol Commuter Line with daily trips to nearby towns and one daily service to Legazpi. Buses from Manila to Naga depart from 5:30 AM, with major operators like Philtranco stopping at the Bicol Central Terminal near SM City Naga.

Avoid wandering alone in less populated barangays after midnight. Petty crime such as bag-snatching can occur near markets and bus terminals. During the Peñafrancia Festival, crowds can become overwhelming—keep belongings secure and have a meeting point arranged in case of separation.
