Overview
Muiden is a compact historic Dutch town of approximately 7,200 people on the IJmeer at the mouth of the Vecht river. The town is best known for the Muiderslot, a 13th-century castle that can be toured, and its yacht harbour where boats pass through the historic sea lock.

Muiden is primarily a day-trip destination; no budget hostels are mentioned in town. Base yourself in Amsterdam or Weesp for overnight stays.
Activities
Muiderslot castle admission is €13.50 adults, €9 children (4–11). Boat trips and boat rental available on the Vecht river and Gooimeer.
Culture
The historic centre is a protected area (Rijksbeschermd gezicht Muiden). Three forts of the Stelling van Amsterdam are in or accessible from Muiden, part of a UNESCO World Heritage fortification ring.
Food
Graaf Floris van Muiden and De Doelen on the quayside are the main restaurants; Cafe Ome Ko is the local favourite for drinks.
Transport
Train to Weesp station, then Bus 110, is the fastest route from Amsterdam.
