Overview
Much Wenlock is a picturesque medieval market town filled with twisting streets, black and white half-timbered buildings, and limestone cottages. The town holds special significance as the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games—local physician Dr William Penny-Brookes inspired the fore-runner of today's Olympics in 1850 for the 'promotion of moral, physical and intellectual improvement.' The Much Wenlock Olympian Games are still held every July, making this a unique destination for history and sports enthusiasts alike.
