Overview
Mount Wuyi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where sheer cliffs rise dramatically above the Nine-Bend River, bamboo rafts glide through canyon gorges, and ancient hanging coffins cling to inaccessible cliff faces. The area combines spectacular natural scenery with tea culture—Da Hong Pao ('Big Red Robe') oolong from these mountains has sold at over US$1000 per gram—plus temples, hiking trails, and a nightly theatrical spectacle.

Before you go
Etiquette
Remove shoes when entering temples. Tianxin Yongle Temple has free tea for guests—try some before leaving. Tipping is not expected but appreciated at nicer restaurants.
Food
Resort restaurants are overpriced; walk to real town for evening food stands serving Fujian dishes for a few yuan. Tea eggs at ¥3 are the best budget snack. Ask prices before ordering game dishes.
Money
Cash is king in Wuyi—small tea shops and street vendors rarely accept cards. ATMs available in resort and town areas. Tea prices range from a few yuan for basic packs to hundreds for premium Da Hong Pao.
Transport
Bus No.6 connects train stations, resort area, park entrances, and airport for ¥1-3. Avoid taxis (¥30-40 rip-off); take the bus instead. Shuttle buses included with park tickets.
Weather
Summer is hot—bring sunscreen and hat for rafting. Spring and autumn are ideal for hiking. Rafting morning slots are cooler than afternoon departures.
