Overview
Mount Isa is a mining city of 22,000 people in northwest Queensland, roughly 900 km west of Townsville and 1,900 km northwest of Brisbane. The city covers over 43,310 square kilometres, making it geographically the second largest city in the world after Kalgoorlie-Boulder in Western Australia.

Road flooding is a major concern during wet season. Never cross covered causeways without checking conditions, even without barriers.

Budget and Avis car rental available in city centre with airport pickup. Greyhound buses and The Inlander train (twice weekly) connect to Townsville. Flights via Qantas, Rex, Airnorth, and Skytrans.

Best visited May-September when temperatures are 25-32°C. Summer (Dec-Feb) is hot and humid with 36°C+ highs. Winters are dry and mild.
