Before you go

Money

Cash is essential in the park area—many small vendors and guesthouse owners don't accept cards. RMB accepted everywhere; exchange currency in larger cities before visiting.

Packing

Bring your own toiletries including toothbrush, soap, and towel—guesthouses are more basic than city standards. Water and snacks cost much more on the mountain.

Transport

The Nanyue bus terminal is the most convenient for the mountain; clarify you want Nanyue when booking bus tickets to avoid Hengshan town terminal.

Weather

Snow is possible in winter (December-February); summer brings heat and humidity. Pack layers for summit temperatures that can be significantly cooler than the base.
