Safety
Active volcano with eruption risk; monitor official government advisories. Summit hikes require guides May-Oct. Weather changes rapidly at altitude.
Transport
Catania is the main hub; drive south to Rifugio Sapienza (south) or via Linguaglossa to Piano Provenzana (north) in about 45 minutes. Railway Circumetnea loops around the west side only.
Weather
Dress for cold even in summer at summit; snow persists late. Clouds and rain frequently obscure views. Check forecasts before ascending.
