Before you go
Camping
Three campgrounds at $30/night: Junction (6 sites, first-come), Juniper (36 sites, showers), Live Oak (22 sites, showers). No food/ice sales in park.
Fees
Vehicle entry: $6 at Danville/Clayton entrances (no summit access), $10 at Walnut Creek entrance (summit access). Free for hikers and cyclists.
Food
No restaurants in park. Bring your own food for picnics. Water available at visitor centers and campgrounds (may be limited during low rainfall).
Safety
Easy to get lost on winding trails. Return before sunset (park closes). Carry extra water. Watch for horses and dogs on fire trails.
Transport
Park gates open 8AM-sunset. Drive via North Gate Road or South Gate Road. No car? Take County Connection bus 310/320 from Concord BART station.
Weather
Summit can have snow in winter while valleys remain mild. Summer is dry and hot; winter brings rain and green landscapes through early spring.
