Before you go
Accommodation
Even budget accommodation is expensive. Ski lodges offer cheaper communal options. Book early for busy periods. Off-mountain towns like Mansfield offer cheaper alternatives with 20+ minute drive.
Connectivity
Telstra provides best coverage; Vodafone and Optus have issues in some areas. Coverage better on north side of mountain. Difficult to get signal at bottom of ski runs.
Food
Limited eateries—book tables especially for groups. On-mountain restaurants have 30+ minute waits during peak times. Only supermarket is expensive.
Money
Mount Buller is extremely expensive by Australian standards. Bring supplies where possible as the only supermarket charges premium prices. Cash and card accepted at most establishments.
Safety
Download the Mount Buller app for Ski Patrol emergency access. CFA and Police Station at Stirling Road/The Avenue junction. Medical Centre on Summit Road.
Transport
All vehicles must carry wheel chains on the mountain road. Mirimbah Store is the last fuel point before Mount Buller. Free village buses operate three routes with ski/snowboard clamps.
Weather
Winter temperatures regularly drop below 0°C with average snow depth of 1.5 m. Summer averages around 15°C maximum but often requires layers. Weather can change rapidly in the mountains.
