Overview
Morvan Regional Natural Park is a protected wilderness area in the heart of Burgundy, offering a counterpoint to France's famous vineyards and chateaux. The park covers 290,900 hectares across 117 municipalities with just 51,357 inhabitants, making it one of France's least populated natural parks.

Before you go
Connectivity
Mobile coverage is limited in forested areas. Most hotels and the Maison du Parc offer WiFi. Standard French Type C/F power outlets (230V) are used throughout.
Money
France uses the euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted in towns but may not work in rural areas or small establishments. Carry cash for village restaurants and small purchases.
Packing
Bring layers for variable weather, sturdy walking shoes for village exploration and hiking, and a flashlight for nighttime driving or evening walks in dark rural areas.
Safety
Drive very carefully at night—deer and other wildlife frequently cross the winding roads. Keep to moderate speeds and use high beams when appropriate.
Transport
A car is essential for exploring the park. Roads are narrow and winding. Nearest train stations are in Dijon or Montceau-les-Mines, requiring a 45-60 minute drive to reach the park.
Weather
Climate varies by elevation; Avallon averages 6°C in January and 25°C in July. Rainfall is moderate year-round. Always check forecasts before outdoor activities.
