Why Go?
Montecatini Terme is one of 11 "Great Spa Towns of Europe", a UNESCO transcontinental World Heritage Site. Built around mineral water springs believed to aid gastrointestinal and cholesterol issues, the town features imposing thermal baths and public parks in stunning Art Nouveau style, many decorated by Galileo Chini, Italy's most famous Art Nouveau artist. The "garden city" offers a slower, more elegant pace than major tourist hubs while serving as a perfect base for exploring Tuscany.

When to Go
The funicular to Montecatini Alto operates between 1 April and 1 November annually. Summer hosts the "Estate Regina" classical music festival. The thermal spa season runs year-round, though spring and autumn offer milder weather for exploring. Consider visiting outside peak summer months for fewer crowds at spa facilities.
