Overview
Monte Cofano Nature Reserve offers a rare combination of coastal and mountain scenery in northwestern Sicily. The 537-hectare reserve centers on a striking limestone peak rising from the Tyrrhenian Sea, with karst formations, sea caves, and Mediterranean scrub creating diverse landscapes.

Connectivity
Mobile coverage is limited or nonexistent in parts of the reserve. Download offline maps before entering. WiFi available only in nearby towns.
Food
No food vendors inside the reserve. Bring all food and snacks. Stock up in Cornino, Custonaci, or Castelluzzo/Macari before entering.
Money
The reserve has no entrance fee. Meals, accommodation, and transport must be paid for in nearby towns. Cash is recommended for small purchases at minimarkets and cafes.
Packing
Bring sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection, at least 1.5-2L water per person, snacks, and all rubbish must be packed out — no bins in the reserve.
Safety
Carry 2+ liters of water per person, especially summer. No mobile signal in many areas. Beaches are unmonitored. Sturdy footwear essential for rocky trails.
Transport
No public transport reaches the reserve directly. Drive or take a local bus to Custonaci, Castelluzzo, or Macari, then walk or taxi to trailheads. Parking available near both entrances.
Weather
Summer heat (June-September) can be intense with no shade. Spring (April-May) and autumn (October) offer milder temperatures ideal for hiking.
