Overview
Monnickendam is a small historic town of about 10,000 inhabitants in the Zaanstreek-Waterland region of North Holland, located just 20 km northeast of Amsterdam. The town received city rights in 1355 and prospered during the 16th century through cheese production, fish smoking, and shipbuilding.

Summer months (June-August) offer the best weather for exploring the historic centre and taking boat trips through Waterland.
