Overview
Meppadi is the most scenic village in Wayanad District, Kerala, offering pristine tea estates, mountain treks, and waterfalls without the tourist crowds found elsewhere in India. Unlike commercialized destinations, you can walk freely through tea plantations without being hassled by touts.

Budget rooms from ₹400-750 in Meppadi. Options include City Tourist Home (₹500 near bus stand), K.M.H. Guest House (₹100-2,250/month opposite bus station), and several other homestays and dormitories.
Activities
Chembra Peak trek (₹20 entry + ₹500 guide) takes 2 hours to reach the heart-shaped lake. Soochippara Waterfalls (₹20 entry) offer rock climbing. Meenmutty Waterfalls charge ₹300 for groups up to 10 with guide.

Four restaurants serve Kerala-style food. Breakfast is dosa/porottas, lunch features vegetarian thali with fish, dinner offers chappathis and fried rice. Qassim Bakery is famous for biryani. No alcohol available in Meppadi.
Transport
Meppadi is 12 km from Kalpetta, the main Wayanad town. Kozhikode is 78 km (1½ hours) and Ooty is 106 km (2½ hours). Local buses, autorickshaws, and Jeep-style taxis are available.
Weather
September-January is best for waterfalls. Monsoon (June-August) makes treks dangerous. December-April for Meenmutty's upper tiers.
