Overview
Mariupol was a major port city on the Sea of Azov in southeastern Ukraine, historically known for its Greek heritage and steel industry. Before the 2022 Russian invasion, it had a population of 432,000 and was the tenth largest city in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH) was the local currency. Post offices open M-Sa 08:00-13:00, 14:00-17:00.
Safety
Mariupol has been under Russian military control since May 2022 after heavy bombardment. The city was significantly damaged in spring 2022. Travel is not recommended under current conditions.

Public transport included trolleybuses, trams, and buses. Bus terminal at Vulytsya Artema, 115; Railway station at Vulytsya Linnika, 74.

Humid continental climate with humid period December-March (15 rainy days/month). Summer water temperature 22-24°C. Maximum temperature 38°C in August.
