Overview
Margate is a traditional English seaside resort on the Isle of Thanet in north Kent, with a 2021 population of 64,000. It hit its peak in the Victorian era when the railway brought mass-market holidaymakers; the subsequent decline left a downbeat mix of Georgian and Victorian architecture, but this has paradoxically made it a TV and film location for authentic low-rent settings.
