Overview
Lyngen is a remote Norwegian municipality where the Lyngen Alps rise 1833 metres directly from the Arctic Ocean, among the most alpine peaks in Norway. The area is tricultural, with Sami, Finnish, and Norwegian heritage, though today Norwegian is universally spoken.

Accommodation
Book accommodation well in advance, especially March-May for skiing. Cooking facilities are common as restaurant options are thin and close early.
Money
Norway uses Norwegian Krone (NOK). ATMs available in Lyngseidet at supermarkets. Credit cards widely accepted. Supermarkets cheaper than restaurants.
Safety
Crime is virtually non-existent. Main risks are the mountains for untrained visitors - avalanche hazard is high in winter. Always wear lifejackets on boats.
Transport
Ferry from Breivikeidet to Svensby is the main access from Tromsø (50 min drive + 25 min ferry). Buses are very limited - having your own vehicle is strongly recommended.
Weather
Weather changes rapidly; wind can shift from gentle breeze to gale in minutes. Pack layers and be prepared for sudden conditions year-round.
