Overview
Liu'ao is a windswept sandy peninsula jutting into the Taiwan Strait, south of Xiamen and Zhangzhou. The peninsula earns its name from six rocky hills that ancient mariners likened to ao, legendary sea creatures.

Accommodation starts from ¥100 per night, concentrated in Liu'ao Town. Tent rental is available for camping.
Activities
Beaches on the east coast face the Taiwan Strait; swimming is not officially encouraged due to wind and waves. Kitesurfing is popular. PLA tunnels near the Old Fortress require a flashlight to explore.
Food
Sweet potato porridge (地瓜粥) is a local specialty. Two Shaxian Xiaochi noodle shops and seafood markets are available in Liu'ao Town.
Transport
County Route X523 is the peninsula's main road. Private vehicle, taxi, or organized tour is recommended for getting around.
