Overview
Liptovský Mikuláš is a town of 31,000 people in Central Slovakia and the centre of the historical Liptov region. It is one of the most famous tourist centres in Slovakia, offering access to the Low Tatras via Demänová valley, well-known caves including the Demänová Ice Cave and Demänová Cave of Freedom, and proximity to Jasná, the biggest ski resort in Slovakia.

Transport
D1 motorway connects Liptovský Mikuláš to Bratislava and Košice. Main railway station serves routes from Bratislava to Košice. Public buses (14 routes) cover the town; buses to Demänovská Dolina depart from main bus station.
Weather
Caves maintain ~6°C year-round; wear warm clothing. Ski season at Jasná runs December–March. Summer best for hiking.
