Overview
Linlithgow is a small historic town in West Lothian, 20 miles west of Edinburgh, easily reached in 20 minutes by train. Its main draw is the imposing ruined Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots in 1542, sitting dramatically above the town and overlooking a scenic freshwater loch.

Transport
Linlithgow railway station is at the east end of High Street with step-free access to both platforms. Trains from Edinburgh every 20 minutes, 20 minutes journey. Bus 38 runs every 15 minutes from Edinburgh via the airport.
Water
Linlithgow Loch is freshwater with rainbow trout fishing. Warning: toxic algal blooms can develop in early summer after agricultural run-off; avoid contact with green water.

Scottish weather is variable year-round. Summers are mild (15-20°C) with long daylight hours; winters are cold (0-5°C) with short days. Rain is possible in all seasons.
