Overview
Letterkenny is the largest town in County Donegal with around 22,500 residents, serving as the county's commercial and transport hub. While the town itself isn't especially scenic, it offers practical amenities and makes an ideal base for exploring the rest of northwest Ireland.

Transport
Bus Éireann and private operators connect Letterkenny to Derry (1.5 hr), Dublin (5 hr), Sligo (2 hr), and Belfast (2.5 hr). No train station in town.

The northwest of Ireland experiences frequent rain year-round. Summers are mild (15-20°C) with long daylight hours; winters are cool (4-8°C) with shorter days.
