Before you go

Connectivity

Mobile coverage is limited on remote islands. Finnish carriers provide basic coverage near population centres but expect gaps in the archipelago.

Etiquette

Right to access applies in most areas but not in nature reserves. Dogs must be leashed. Keep to marked trails in protected areas and maintain quiet near bird nesting sites.

Money

Finland uses euros. ATMs available in Replot village and nearby Vaasa. Most local services accept cards but bring cash for nature reserve fees.

Safety

Emergency services can take over an hour to arrive. Inform someone of your plans before exploring remote areas. New navigational hazards appear regularly due to land uplift.

Transport

Access via Replot bridge on Road 724 from highway 8 near Vaasa. Most islands require boat transport. Car is essential for reaching trailheads.

Weather

Windy year-round with brief, intense summer sunshine. Pack warm layers even in summer. May-July has restricted access to protect nesting birds.
