Overview
Kuranda is a small village tucked into the rainforest of Far North Queensland, best known as an extremely popular day-trip destination from Cairns. The town itself has charming markets, wildlife sanctuaries, and a laid-back atmosphere quite different from the coastal city.

Accommodation
If staying overnight, book accommodation in Cairns for better selection and prices, or camp at Kuranda Caravan Park.
Money
Australian dollars accepted everywhere. Card payment widely available. Markets and some attractions are cash-based.
Timing
Arrive early on the first train or visit in the afternoon to avoid the midday crowds that pack the village when tour groups arrive.
Transport
The Skyrail and Scenic Railway are tourist-priced scenic experiences. Budget travelers should use Trans North buses ($6.70, 40 minutes) rather than the expensive scenic alternatives.
Weather
Visit during the dry season (April-October) for comfortable temperatures. The wet season can cause flooding affecting access to Barron Falls.
