Overview
Krakatoa (Gunung Krakatau) is a volcanic island in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, part of Lampung province in Sumatra. The island is famous for its catastrophic 1883 eruption and remains an active volcano, offering dramatic landscapes of volcanic terrain, surrounding forest-covered islands, and the chance to witness Anak Krakatau (Child of Krakatoa) still smoking.
