Overview
Kootenay National Park offers dramatic Canadian Rockies scenery without the crowds of neighboring Banff. The park spans 1,406 km² (543 sq mi) of mountain wilderness, featuring colorful mineral Paint Pots, dramatic canyons, and natural hot springs.

Before you go
Accommodation
Kootenay Park Lodge (12 cabins) is the only permanent lodging. Five campgrounds operate May-September; Dolly Varden has limited winter camping.
Connectivity
Limited cell service; no WiFi in park. Visitor centre in Radium Hot Springs may have connectivity.
Fees
Park admission required for all stoppers (2024): Adults $11, Seniors $9.50, Youth under 18 free, Family $22. Daily fishing permits $13.50.
Transport
Highway 93 is the only major route through the park, running north to Lake Louise and south to Radium Hot Springs. No public transit available.
Weather
Continental climate with cool summers and snowy winters. Drier than Banff due to mountain rain shadow. Best visited June-September.
