Overview
Kilbirnie is the largest of a cluster of small towns in Ayrshire at the head of the Garnock Valley, 20 miles southwest of Glasgow. Historically it grew around flax and weaving industries using the freshwater loch, then iron and steel manufacturing.

Very limited accommodation in Kilbirnie itself; the handful of B&Bs didn't open in 2022 and Moorpark House Hotel has closed. Nearest option is Saracen's Head pub in Beith (B&B double £80).
Connectivity
4G available from all UK carriers as of July 2022. 5G not yet available. Coverage patchy on A760 approach road.
Food
Town centre has Yazan's, Anaya's Indian restaurant, Irvine's Bakery, Coffee & Cakes, Freddi's Tandoori and takeaways. Lime Tree Larder (farm shop) is worth a detour for chocolates and ice cream.
Money
UK uses Pound Sterling (GBP). Most places accept cards; ATMs available in town. Tesco has a filling station.
Transport
Trains from Glasgow Central to Glengarnock run every 15-20 min, taking 30 min; walk-up single £7.30 (2022). Bus X36 runs hourly from Glasgow Buchanan to Kilbirnie (45 min).
