Overview

Kerava is a modern commuter town in Southern Finland, located about 30km north of Helsinki as part of the greater metropolitan area. Founded as an industrial settlement along the railway a little over a century ago, it has no historic old town but offers contemporary art, modern architecture, and hosts the popular Valkosipulifestivaalit (Garlic Festival) each August.

Events

The Garlic Festival (Valkosipulifestivaalit) occurs mid-August on Kauppakaari. Kerava Day (Keravan päivä) is celebrated a week before Midsummer with free concerts.

Kauppakaari street offers diverse dining from Chinese buffets to sushi, Nepalese cuisine, pizza, and fast food. Prisma hypermarket is open 24 hours.

Transport

Kerava railway station provides commuter train access to Helsinki (25-30 min). Local buses and Petax taxis serve the town and surrounding areas.
