Overview
Kelleys Island is a tiny Lake Erie island with about 300 residents and a National Historic District designation. It offers glacial grooves, petroglyphs, beaches, and a handful of pubs — a quiet counterpoint to the mainland's Cedar Point crowds.

Before you go
Connectivity
4G service covers the south side downtown; north side has poor or no signal. Canadian towers may accidentally connect on the north shore — watch for international charges.
Money
Kelley's Island Market has an ATM. Most goods must be shipped to the island and cost more than on the mainland. Credit card acceptance is limited; carry cash for smaller purchases.
Packing
There is no pharmacy on the island; bring enough medicine for your entire trip. Stock up on essentials before ferrying over.
Safety
No hospital on the island; emergency services are limited. Poor cellular coverage in undeveloped areas. Lake swimming has no lifeguard and riptides occur. Bedrock is slippery near the surface.
Transport
Ferries from Marblehead ($9.50 adults, $15 autos) or Sandusky ($34 Jet Express round trip) run every half-hour in peak season. Kelleys Island Municipal Airport handles charter flights year-round.
Weather
Best visited late spring through early fall. The lake freezes in winter, making the island largely inaccessible and businesses closed.
