Overview
Kastamonu is a historic provincial capital in Turkey's Western Black Sea region, 92 km inland from the Black Sea coast at an altitude of 900 m. The city served as the capital of the Candaroğlu petty kingdom from the 13th to 15th century and later became a crucial supply hub during the Turkish War of Independence, when munitions were smuggled through the nearby port of İnebolu.

Located at 900 m altitude, Kastamonu experiences cold winters and mild summers. The Küre Mountains nearby can experience fog.
