The village sits at the junction of E8 and E45 highways. Daily buses connect to Rovaniemi, Kilpisjärvi, and seasonal Tromsø. Buses from Kiruna stop on the Swedish side requiring a 1 km border crossing.

Subarctic climate with possible snowfall even in summer. Summer brings midnight sun; winter offers limited daylight and prime skiing conditions.
