Culture
Karaman is historically significant as the seat of the Karamid dynasty (1256–1468). The city’s Turkish identity was affirmed when Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey proclaimed Turkish the official language. Traditional Islamic culture predominates; dress modestly when visiting mosques.

Turkey uses Turkish Lira (TRY). ATMs are available in the city centre. Credit cards are accepted at hotels and larger establishments but carry cash for small shops and local eateries.

Karaman is a quiet provincial city with low violent crime. Standard urban precautions apply: guard valuables in crowded areas and on public transport.
Transport
Karaman railway station connects to the YHT high-speed train network north–south. The bus station serves overland routes to Istanbul, Ankara, Konya, Adana, and Cyprus. Within the city, walking covers all central sights; dolmuş minibuses serve main streets.
Weather
Continental climate: hot dry summers (30°C+ July–August), cold winters below freezing with snow (December–February). Best visited in spring or autumn for mild sightseeing weather.
