Kandahar is Afghanistan's second-largest city and was the nation's capital before Kabul in 1776. It remains the political and economic heart of southern Afghanistan, producing many of the country's most influential leaders—from Ahmad Shah Durrani, founder of modern Afghanistan, to former President Hamid Karzai.

Taxis and rental vehicles with drivers are the main transport options. International airport has flights to Dubai, Kabul, and Herat.
Weather
Hot summers (40°C in July) and mild winters (12°C in January). Spring (March-May) is the most comfortable time to visit.
