Why go?

Kalgoorlie–Boulder is a regional city of 30,000 people in Western Australia's Goldfields–Esperance region, built on over a century of gold mining wealth. The town preserves an extraordinary collection of historic buildings from the 1890s gold rush era, including ornate pubs, post offices, and banks that line Hannan Street. The Super Pit, one of the largest open-cut gold mines in Australia, abuts the town and offers viewing access. It makes an ideal base for exploring nearby ghost towns like Kanowna, Coolgardie, and Menzies with its famous Lake Ballard sculptures.

Day trips

Kanowna is 29 km east on Yari Rd—a ghost town of 12,000 people now reduced to two cemeteries, a train platform, and broken whiskey bottles with streets marked by vanished store and hotel signs.
