Juba is the largest city and capital of South Sudan, serving as the country's economic and political hub on the banks of the White Nile. The city grew rapidly after becoming the capital in 2005, and despite security concerns and high costs, it attracts many expats, aid workers, and diplomats.

Both Sudanese pounds and US dollars are accepted; prices often quoted in USD. Exchange British pounds and Ugandan shillings at Kenya Commercial Bank. Prices are 30-100% higher than Kampala.
Safety
Armed robbery and muggings targeting foreigners occur; avoid night travel. Landmines exist outside city areas. Maintain high security awareness.
Transport
Boda bodas available during daylight hours. 4x4 vehicles recommended after rains as roads are often muddy. Walking not recommended due to crime and distances.

Hot year-round (32-38°C). Rainy season April-October (peak June-August). Best time to visit is November-March dry season.
