Overview
Jilin is one of the most beautiful cities in Manchuria, far more pleasant and manageable than most cities in Dongbei (Northeast China). The city features largely rebuilt hutongs clustered between the Songhua River to the south, railway tracks to the north, Tianjin Jie to the east, and Bei Da Jie to the west.

Food
Local specialties include Manchurian cuisine, chuan (Chinese kebab), dumplings, and Korean food. Meals can be found for under ¥30 at local eateries.
Language
Mandarin Chinese is the primary language. Some Korean restaurants have Korean-speaking staff. English is limited outside major hotels.
Money
Currency is Chinese Yuan (¥). Most restaurants and hotels accept mobile payment apps (WeChat Pay, Alipay) which are preferred over cash.
Transport
Extensive bus network covers all major attractions. Key routes 3, 33, 61, 66 serve the main avenue area. Route 333 connects the railway station to Songhua Lake.
Weather
Jilin has very cold winters (January: -21°C to -9°C) ideal for ice attractions. Summers are warm (June-August: 15-28°C) with significant rainfall.
