Overview
Jiayuguan marks the western end of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, earning it the nickname 'mouth of China.' The fortress city sits at the entrance to the Hexi Corridor, the narrow passage nicknamed the 'throat of China' that connected ancient China to Central Asia via the Silk Road. History enthusiasts will appreciate the reconstructed fortress, the Overhanging Wall攀壁长城 with panoramic Gobi Desert views, and nearby Wei Jin tomb paintings dating to the 3rd-4th centuries.
