Overview
The Isle of Pines (Île des Pins, Kunyié) has been nicknamed 'L'île la plus proche du Paradis' ('the closest island to Paradise'). The island is home to the world's largest gecko species and features lush pine forests framing turquoise bays.

Currency is CFP (French Pacific Franc). ATMs available at Post Office in Vao. Credit card acceptance is limited—carry cash for most purchases.
Safety
Low crime rate typical of small Pacific islands. Convict prison ruins have uneven terrain—wear sturdy shoes.
Transport
Betico ferry runs Wednesday (day return) and Saturday-Sunday (overnight). Air Calédonie has 3-5 daily flights from Magenta airport. No public transport on island—arrange transfers with accommodation or rent a car at airport.
