Overview
Invermere is a small mountain town of about 3,400 residents in the East Kootenays region of southeastern British Columbia. Nestled between the Rocky Mountains to the east and the Purcell Mountains to the west, it serves as a year-round recreation hub at the north end of Lake Windermere.

Health
Invermere & District Hospital (850 10th Avenue) has a 24/7 emergency department. For non-emergencies, the Columbia Valley has limited medical facilities; serious cases may require transfer to Cranbrook or Calgary.

Prices typically listed in CAD. Credit cards accepted at most hotels, restaurants, and attractions. ATMS available in town. BC has higher provincial sales tax (12%) than most provinces.
Safety
Bear safety is essential in surrounding wilderness: use bear bells and carry bear bangers. Cell service may be limited on backcountry trails. Winter driving requires caution on mountain passes.
Transport
BC Transit Columbia Valley routes connect Invermere to Radium Hot Springs, Edgewater, and Fairmont Hot Springs on weekdays. The Health Connections route to Golden and Cranbrook operates twice weekly. A car or bike is recommended for full flexibility.
Weather
Warm summers and cool winters with Rocky Mountain shelter from extreme cold. Springs arrive earlier than prairie regions. Summer alternates between hot-dry and cool-showery periods.
