Culture
94% francophone; even basic French greetings dramatically improve hospitality. Three anglophone communities: Grosse-Île, Old Harry, and l'île d'Entrée.

ATMs available only at Caisses Desjardins credit unions around the islands and National Bank at 425 Chemin Principal, Cap-aux-Meules. Carry sufficient cash as withdrawal options are limited.
Safety
Avoid cliff edges due to erosion collapse risk. Watch for strong ocean currents at certain beaches. Otherwise very safe destination.
Transport
CTMA ferry from Souris, PEI takes 5 hours. Reserve ahead. Air access via Îles-de-la-Madeleine Airport (YGM) on Île du Havre aux Maisons.
Weather
Water reaches 18°C by mid-August for swimming. High winds (17-40 km/h) are constant—ideal for windsurfing but challenging for cycling. Best beach weather July-August; September quieter with cooler temps.
