IJsselstein is a compact historic city in Utrecht province that makes for an easy half-day or full-day excursion from Utrecht. The city centers on the remains of IJsselstein Castle, features a protected old town with a moat-like canal called the Stadsgracht, and includes a rare 18th-century windmill.
