Overview
Idar-Oberstein is a compact gem-cutting and jewelry capital carved into a narrow Nahe river gorge between rocky cliffs. The town flows underground along several kilometers since the river was covered in 1986, making its cliff-hanging Felsenkirche and steep medieval stairs a memorable arrival.
