Overview

Hveragerði is a small geothermally active town of 3,000 people in South Iceland, located 45 km from Reykjavik along Route 1. Its name derives from the Icelandic word 'hver' for hot spring, and the steaming vents in the hills north of town are visible from the main street.

Main attractions include the Geothermal park (300 kr entrance), Laugaskarð swimming pool (620 kr), and free hiking in Reykjadalur. The public park and earthquake exhibition are free.

Transport

Hveragerði is 45 km from Reykjavik along Route 1. Bus 51 connects from Reykjavik's Mjodd bus station. Within town, everything is walkable.
