Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) is a granite massif of 36 peaks rising above 1,800m, famous throughout Chinese artistic history. The mountain's sheer beauty inspired China's best painters for generations and served as inspiration for traditional Chinese garden designs.

Connectivity
Limited connectivity on the mountain itself. Tangkou and Tunxi have full mobile coverage.
Money
Prices double on the mountain summit. Budget ¥300+ for dorm accommodation on the mountain versus ¥80 in Tangkou. Cash useful for small vendors and markets.
Safety
Watch for ice in winter mornings. Avoid eye contact with monkeys. Trails are well-maintained stone/concrete with railings.
Transport
Huangshan North has high-speed rail; Huangshan station (Tunxi) serves sleeper trains. Bus from stations to Tangkou costs ¥15-20 (1 hour). Only National Express buses can enter the mountain scenic area.
Weather
Over 200 days per year the summit is in clouds. Plan multiple days to catch clear weather. Winter brings ice and path closures. Vendors sell snow spikes on the mountain.
