Hinton is a small town of almost 10,000 people in the Athabasca River valley, 80 km along the Yellowhead Highway from Jasper National Park. It markets itself as a gateway to the Rockies with a notable Beaver Boardwalk around Maxwell Lake.

Transport
Hinton lies on the Yellowhead Highway (Hwy 16) between Jasper and Edmonton. SunDog Tours operates daily bus service to Edmonton and Jasper. Hinton Transit offers local bus service at $3 per ride or $8 for a day pass, but has no Sunday service.
Weather
Hinton experiences cold winters with snow and mild summers. Summer (June-August) is the best time for outdoor activities and exploring nearby parks. Winters are long and snowy.
