Overview
Hildesheim is a historic Lower Saxon city famous for its two UNESCO World Heritage churches dating to the 11th century. The city was known as the "Nuremberg of the north" before WWII destroyed 90% of its center, but careful reconstruction has restored many half-timbered buildings and medieval monuments.
